Antananarivo to Antsirabe: Leaving Antananarivo, travelers pass through red hills and rice paddies and frequently make stops in Ambatolampy for traditional workshops where tourists learn how to make aluminum pots. Antsirabe is a cool highland spa resort with colonial architecture and pousse-pousse (rickshaws). Antsirabe to Fianarantsoa/Ranomafana: Going farther south, visitors get a chance to visit Ambositra, the capital of Malagasy wood carving (Zafimaniry art). This area features dramatic scenery, which ends at Fianarantsoa, the capital of the Betsileo people, surrounded by vineyards and located near the [Ranomafana National Park] .Fianarantsoa to Isalo National Park: Not far from Ambalavao, one can stop by the Anja Community Reserve, which provides an opportunity to get acquainted with ring-tailed lemurs. The trip continues across the Ihorombe plateau to [Isalo National Park] with its sandstone canyons. Isalo to Toliara: Now travelers find themselves amid the arid savannah with huge baobab trees and Mahafaly tombs. Toliara, the hot coastal city, or beaches of Ifaty with their turquoise water and spiny forests, are the last stops of this journey.
