Day 1: Kampala to Fort portal (Kibale forest)
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport. Meet your driver/guide and have a brief orientation.
Late Morning/Afternoon: Drive to Kibale National Park (~5-6 hours drive). Enjoy the scenic drive through tea plantations and local villages.
Lunch: Enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant with the best Ugandan cuisines.
Evening: Check into your lodge near Kibale Forest. Relax and prepare for the next day’s adventure.
An overnight stay at Hotel/Lodge in Fortportal
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park
5:30 AM: Start your day with an early breakfast at your hotel in Fort Portal.
6:30 AM: Depart for Kibale Forest National Park, located just a short drive away from Fort Portal.
7:30 AM: Arrive at the park's headquarters and meet with your guide for a briefing about the chimpanzee tracking experience. Learn about the safety guidelines and what to expect during the trek.
8:00 AM: Begin your chimpanzee tracking adventure into the dense tropical forest. The experienced guides will lead you through the trails, listening for the sounds of chimpanzees and keeping an eye out for other wildlife along the way.
8:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Spend the morning trekking through the forest in search of the habituated chimpanzee families. As you hike, your guide will share insights into the behavior and ecology of these fascinating primates, as well as information about the diverse flora and fauna of the forest.
12:30 PM: After an exhilarating morning of chimpanzee tracking, return to the park headquarters. Take some time to rest and enjoy a packed lunch in the designated picnic area.
1:30 PM: Visit the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk. Explore the swamp and surrounding community-owned forest, home to a variety of bird species, monkeys, and other wildlife.
3:30 PM: Conclude your chimpanzee tracking experience and head back to Fort Portal.
4:30 PM: Arrive back at your hotel in Fort Portal. Take some time to relax and unwind after a day of adventure in the forest.
6:30 PM: Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, savoring the flavors of Ugandan cuisine.
8:00 PM: Reflect on your chimpanzee tracking experience and the wonders of Kibale Forest before retiring for the night at your hotel.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Morning: After breakfast, embark on a drive (~3 hours) to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Spot wildlife along the way.
Afternoon: Enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, famous for its high concentration of hippos, elephants, and birdlife.
Evening: Go for a short game drive before checking in to your lodge.
Overnight: Mweya Safari Lodge or similar.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi
After an early breakfast, depart from Queen Elizabeth National Park. Begin your drive towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey is approximately 3-5 hours, depending on the gate of Bwindi you are headed to (Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, or Nkuringo).
Scenic Stop at Ishasha Sector
On your way out of Queen Elizabeth National Park, stop at the Ishasha sector, known for the famous tree-climbing lions. You can spend around 30 minutes spotting wildlife and taking pictures.
Continue Drive towards Bwindi
Proceed towards Bwindi, enjoying the scenic landscapes, rolling hills, and traditional villages along the way. The road is quite bumpy in some sections, but the views of southwestern Uganda’s countryside are rewarding.
Break at Kihihi or Kihurura (Optional)
Stop in a nearby town such as Kihihi for a quick snack, stretch, and refuel. This is a good time to rest before the final leg of the journey.
12:00 PM: Arrival in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Arrive in Bwindi’s designated sector. Check into your accommodation (lodge or camp) and settle in.
1:00 PM: Lunch at the Lodge
- Enjoy lunch at your lodge or a nearby restaurant. Try out some local Ugandan dishes like matoke, groundnut sauce, or Luwombo if available.
Optional Afternoon Activity
